The valley landscape in which the town of Rushden nestles was formed some 10,000 years ago at the end of the ice age. The name Rushden means rushy valley and is derived from the name Risdene mentioned in the Domesday Survey 1086.

The town’s early prosperity was based on farming and lace making. Local buildings of interest include St. Marys Church, dating from the 13th Century, and its close neighbour St. Mary the Virgin at Higham Ferrers. Another ancient building, Rushden Hall dating from the 14th Century is located nearby in Hall Park.

Rushden town centre has many well known high street names together with several department stores and supermarkets. Most of the main banks and building societies are also present. Larger shopping areas are within an easy drive – Wellingborough, Northampton and Bedford. There is a rail link at Wellingborough providing fast links to Luton for the airport, London St. Pancras, Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.
